Thule Roof Rack Wind Noise

I have found there to be a lot of wind noise from the towers and cross bars without the j racks installed even at low speeds.

A wind fairing s goal is to reduce the wind noises which are brought about by the roof rack you have placed in your vehicle. Sometimes it s a little loud when the kayak is in the rack but i just don t open the sunroof with a boat on the top. Just got a new setup thule 450r aero bars echelon tray mounts and it whistles above 20mph which is annoying especially when i have my sunroof open. I just installed a thule roof rack on ny 2004 honda accord.

Thule have new product call wingbar claim. Attaches to thule aeroblade aeroblade edge and squarebar with included hardware. Hi thinking of installing thule roof rack but heard that it can be noisy at high speed even with the thule aerobars. New system specific clamps provide the roof rack fairing a clean and secure mounting for our aeroblade aeroblade edge and squarebar systems. Not too concern about fc but particular about excessive wind noise. I want to leave the bars on the car when not transporting my bikes. Is there a way to stop the whistling without installing a fairing as i really do not like the look of the fairings.

Has anyone else had a problem with excessive wind noise once installing roof racks on their wk2 i have spent a fortune trying different brands in numerous locations on the fitted roof rails first were the thule racks very noisy then the genuine mopar type also noisy any sugestions welcome.

If the surface the wind passes over has a consistent shape the disturbance becomes tonal and at certain frequencies very annoying. Whistling can occur because you have laminar streamlined flow of air over your bars. Although wind fairings do not eliminate the noise 100 percent it does minimize it significantly to prevent you from being distracted while you are driving.
